MIDNIGHT MAVERICKS - In the early 1990s, Mavericks was introduced to the world as one of the largest rideable waves on the planet. Located in Half Moon Bay, California, Mavericks breaks "one -half" mile offshore and is surrounded by freezing cold water, great white sharks, huge rocks and a host of other dangers, which make Mavericks one of the heaviest surfed waves on the planet. Despite all the dangers, the best local and international big wave surfers converge upon Mavericks each year between November and March to compete and test their skills against Mavericks thundering waves.
